Project Overview

This project involves the design of a new dry deck and patio in the backyard of an existing home. The site is located in a residential neighborhood in Mount Crested Butte. The home is located in the foothills of Crested Butte ski resort, just a short drive from the ski base area. The goal of the project was to create an exterior space that allows the homeowner and his guest to enjoy the mountain air and take in views of Mount Crested Butte and the surrounding Elk Mountains.

My Role

Serving as the project design lead, I was involved in all phases of the design. Together with the client, we designed a large deck to create an exterior dining space and a large patio below to hold a new hot tub. The client desired habitable exterior space during all seasons, so we worked closely with the builder to create a hidden roof system beneath the deck that protects the patio from both rain and snow.

Results

The project was a great success. The client was satisfied with the new exterior spaces on his home, as well as the design of the dry deck roof that protects the patio from the elements.
